Hamilton to defend title in Russia
Belfast’s featherweight Kickboxing king Gary Hamilton looks to be heading east in the next defence of his world crown.
The popular fighter, who defended his title in some style against European champion Bertrand Fleuret in Toulouse earlier this spring, has been offered a defence against the top rated challenged Armen Israelian in Russia in October. Armen Israelian is world Thai style champion at that weight but will meet Hamilton under Full Contact rules.
“We are working through contracts at the moment,” said Hamilton’s coach Billy Murray. “Gary is world champion and to make him fly all the way to Russia to defend that title, Israelian camp are having to come up with big bucks. We’re almost there and I’d hope to make a formal announcement confirming the bout in the next number of weeks.”
