It shows no signs of slowing up either and how could it when it produces events and fight cards like this.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan told the story of this one last Saturday night.
“There’s so much energy in the air in this room tonight,” said Rogan. “You could tell by the weigh-ins, the place was exploding. I’ve never felt a more pumped-up crowd.”
While UFC 94 has plenty of hype, this fight card was also a purist’s dream as Penn and St-Pierre are perhaps the two most well rounded fighters in all of the UFC.”
Georges St-Pierre vs. BJ Penn
The 13-4-1 Hawaiian, Penn, looked to avenge his close 2006 loss to the 17-2 St-Pierre in what could have been an all-time classic but turned out to be a one sided affair in St-Pierre’s favour.
It appeared as if Penn made a mistake by stepping up a weight class to fight St-Pierre, who was simply too big and too powerful for the Hawaiian to handle.
Penn is still the most flexible, dangerous jiu-jitsu practitioner in the UFC pound-for-pound, but all other things being equal, strength will most-always rule the day, and St-Pierre’s improved wrestling skills just made things worse for Penn.
It’s tough to tell if Penn was being serious when he questioned St-Pierre’s heart and said he was going to make him quit, but St-Pierre certainly made him eat those words.
A totally convincing win by GSP! Consolation for Penn, he still holds a UFC belt and best to stay and dominate the division below.
Overall it was a surprisingly easy night at the office for GSP, but as most fight trainers know, “A good big man always beats a good little man.”
The BIG fight now is - Anderson Silva-Georges St-Pierre that’s the fight that everyone should have been screaming to see.
