According to Simon Rutz, Hari's manager and the head of It's Showtime one of the world biggest fight networks. “ Badr is considering accepting the offer and views it as a great honour to fight for his country.”
Hari himself alluded to the idea a few months ago in an interview before his fight with Mourad Bouzidi:
“Yes, we're working on it but it's not easy to realize this dream of mine. Negotiations are still going on.
But the qualifications for the Olympics already start at the beginning of next year.Yes, but that's not a problem.
"First of all, the Commission need to agree with me being an amateur boxer. We already had several conversations with the Olympic Committee and they will decide if I will be in consideration for it.”
Looks like the door is open for Badr Hari one of kickboxing’s most popular fighters - a tough choice to make.
This brings so many questions in to play:
How would he do?
Is this a good choice?
Would it be right the Olympic Committee would grant him a licence?
What about the financial ramification?
I think he is more suited to the Pro game not the amateurs with his size, punching power, reach, and hand speed he may have a shot at winning gold.
However Boxing and kickboxing are two completely different sports would there be enough time to conform? That’s another important question - if he does go ahead lets hope he doesn't pull another stunt like the one against Hesdy Gerges!
