Magee is no stranger to tough opponents and fighting against the odds and has become known to the boxing fraternity as one of the toughest campaigners in the division but in order to attain World Glory once more, he will need to step up the pace and defend his interim belt convincingly for the WBA to consider sanctioning a challenge for the regular belt.
The Belfast man still feels he has a lot more left in the tank and can win the title by defending his interim belt and then challenging one of the divisions top contenders later in the year. There are rumours that 2012 will be Magee's final year in the ring and that he wants to go out of the sport with a bang. No confirmation of this has been confirmed by Magee or his team but names of plausible opponents such as Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch have been tossed into the mix as a possible final 'mega fight' to say farewell to his ring career.
However Magee still maintains that he wants at least one final shot at the WBA World Title and the next stepping stone to doing so is defeating Markussen in February.

Belfast boxer Brian Magee is set to defend his WBA Interim World Title in Copenhagen this February
Brian Magee WBA Interim Title Defence
The Belfast WBA Interim World Champion who won the title in Costa Rica last year against Jaime Barboza is set to make his first mandatory defence of the crown in Copenhagen, Denmark against 34 year old fellow boxing veteran Rudy Markussen. Magee was stopped in his tracks to World title Glory early in 2010 when he lost to Lucian Bute who fights out of Canada, but a win against Markussen in February will revoke the right to challenge for the WBA World Title.
