The 33-year-old tiler is designing his dream to compete for an Irish title early next year but will need to bounce back from a recent defeat in Switzerland when he enters the ring for the Prokick promoted Fright Night bill at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast on October 30. The Ballynahinch man said: “It was a bit of a set-back suffering the defeat in Switzerland but it goes down as a lesson learned and I plan to put things right in Belfast.

“I have an eye on fighting for the Irish title and that would be a great achievement to have so early in my fight career. I am not in any rush though; I have to get it right in my next fight before I can think about the next step.”

A former footballer with east-Belfast club Braniel FC, David will have his female admirers at ringside in the Hilton Hotel. His wife and daughters all attend David’s training sessions at the Prokick Gym in Belfast – an almost daily 40-mile round-trip. He also attends the club’s 6am boot-camps before rushing home for the school run.

He added: “There’s a lot of commitment needed but I really enjoy the training and development. I am learning an art while also learning a trade between the ropes. “Two years ago I would have been more concerned about picking costumes for the kids to wear on Hallowe’en but this time around I am totally focused on giving my opponent a nightmare he won’t forget.”

Prokick supremo Billy Murray, the former four-time world champion, said: “David is a classic example of how dedication to an aim brings results. He has had 10 fights in less than two years and he is moving up the ladder quickly. The support he gets from his wife and girls cannot be underestimated.”

David will be joined by a host of local fighters who will face international opposition on the October 30 fancy dress bill. Limited tickets remain and are priced at £20 and £30, along with limited £50 VIP ringside tickets that come with a champagne reception, Fright Night goodie bag and post-fight party invitation.
