Simmons kickboxer who took a strong blow during a Thai Boxing fight died in hospital on Monday afternoon 2 days after the tournament.

She had been fighting Lindsay Scheer in a Muay Thai match on an IKF (international Kickboxing Federation) sanctioned event. After Simmons received the left hook that knocked her unconscious , an IKF doctor treated her, the Sheriff's Office said.

Scheer's coach Eric Haycraft wrote on his facebook 'When Simmons fell, a referee ended the bout immediately, and doctors sitting ringside attended to her right away. After she sat up and spoke, medical personnel took her away from the ring'

Adrienne Simmons loved life

Shortly after that, Haycraft wrote, he and Scheer learned that Simmons had been airlifted to the hospital. There is speculation that there was no ambulance attending the event. Florida's WFTV reported that Steve Fossom, President of the IKF, said he arranged for an ambulance from a nearby firestation to be on call but it was not present at the fight.

The State of Florida Athletic Commission's rule for all amateur kickboxing / muay thai events is that if there is a hospital within 5 miles of the event venue, no ambulance is required. This rule is followed by all amateur sanctioning bodies in the state of Florida.
