When speaking to Smith, the First Minister wished him good luck for both fights by saying, "All the best for London, Johnny." He was however curious to know, "Have you ever been tempted to lift your feet in a boxing match?" Smith replied by saying, "I don't know Sir, this is my first boxing fight but I think it should be OK. Thank you." The First Minister finished off by wishing Johnny and the rest of the team the best for Cyprus and the future.

The team don't have much time to let the dust settle from the London event as they jet off a week later to Cyprus where Smith along with fellow East Belfast fighter Karl McBlain will both be challenging for WKN Amateur European titles. McBlain competing at welterweight and Smith at Super-Welterweight.

Also appearing on the London card is father of five, Davy Foster who will face Scott Bryans from London. Both fighters have met before twice, with this final bout deciding who is the best. Darren McMullan from Dundonald will also travel with the team, competing in a Thai-Boxing rules bout.
