LIVE UPDATE fromLincoln. More good news from Lincoln as ProKick's former World Champ Gary Hamilton gets the nod from the judges and wins a hard fought 6 round against tough campaigner Michael Johnston. Hamilton certainly had his work cut out for him against the WUMA world champion from Sunderland and even though the 'Belfast Boy' dropped kicks in a round 2, he soon found his stride and had the Sunderland champion on the canvas and forused the referee to give Johnston a standing count.
The last few rounds were nothing short of an all out war but the majority of the judges at ringside favoured the Belfast fighter making it two wins for the ProKick team.
ProKick's up and coming fighter Karl McBlain has just had his hand raised as the victor in his tough fight against previously unbeaten Englishman Dean Petty in Lincoln KBA's event tonight. The tough 21 year old East Belfast fighter took the fight to his opponent from the very first bell and it was non stop action from both men. Karl stuck to his game plan and listened to his corner well, using his strong boxing techniques and a very powerful and accurate front kick that the Englishman, Petty couldn't seem to find an answer for. After 3 solid rounds of Full-Contact style action all of the judges at ringside sided together for a unanimous decision for McBlain.
Karl's next stop is in Kilkenny where he switches not only style but sport as he takes to the ring for his first competitive conventional rules boxing fight.
There will now be a 30 minute event interval and 3 fights after the break will be the long awaited return of ProKick's former professional world champ 'The Belfast Boy' Gary Hamilton as he faces tough campaigner Michael Johnston from Sunderland.
More pics and results to follow..
Both Gary and Karl have weighed in against their respective opponents and both on target. The former world champ Hamilton, hit the scales at 64.3kg with Sunderland's Michael Johnston coming in at the same weight - both kickers came in1 pound under the required weight.
Hamilton quit the sport in 2010 due to personal and work commitments but returned earlier this year to underpin his class with an emphatic victory over Ballysillan man Aubrey Tarr. He added: “It’s amazing just how quickly the ring rust can set in. I spent all my youth and adult years in the Prokick Gym and despite all I learned, I had to re-think a lot of things when the training kicked-off again.
“I feel now that I have got my rhythm back after a ton of sparring in recent weeks. In some ways I know there are areas to improve on but I could not be better prepared for this fight. I intend to end the year on a high but more importantly I intend to start 2012 by putting myself in the front line for as many fights as possible.”
Hamilton's team mate east Belfast man Karl McBlain was .8 of a Kilo over at 68.8kg he will face tough English un-beaten kickboxer Dean Perry who tipped the scales at 68kg on the dot!
Now all that is left to do is wait for tomorrow night. Karl faces prospect Dean Petty at 68kg and Gary Hamilton headlines the event against tough campaigner and WUMA World Champion Michael Johnston from Sunderland - the bout is over six rounds contest at light welterweight.
Former world WKN champion Gary Hamilton will make a return to the ring tomorrow night Saturday 26th November in Lincoln England. The Belfast man Hamilton, has told his long-time coach its time to get serious and asked the ProKick head Billy Murray to plot a course to help him return to the top of his game, and the aim - to reclaim a prestigious WKN world title belt.
Results from the fights will be uploaded as they happen LIVE here on ProKick.com
