Galway’s Ken Horan is back for one of the biggest fights of his life. Already established as one of the leading names in kickboxing Ken is promoting his first ever FIGHT NIGHT and he also is the main headliner on the International fight-card. Saturday, April 18th at the Kingfisher Gym in NUI, Galway.

Main sponsor of the event Sound to Light will be providing a spectacular stage & light backdrop to the show. Ken tops the bill with a hugely anticipated rematch against Polish superstar Szymon Was.

Having captured the World amateur title nearly six years ago, Horan just recently lost his crown to the undefeated Polish Champion Was by the narrowest of margins in December 2008 in somewhat controversial circumstances. On the night in question Was shared the spoils with Horan when the judging panel couldn’t spilt them.

However ringside officials gave the Polish sensation the title on a count back basis and ended Horan’s reign as World champion. Much to the surprise of everybody, because as a rule a Champion has to be beaten convincingly to lose his crown.

Their rematch in Galway in April promises to be an enthralling and gripping affair when Horan and Was come face to face for the ultimate showdown once again. “Following the disappointing decision, I contacted the WKN head office looking for a rematch. They gave me the opportunity to host my own show, guaranteeing a rematch with Was, in my home town, and it’ll certainly be a different story on April 18th” says Ken.

As he continues his preparations under direction from his Coach Billy Murray from Prokick.com in Belfast for the big fight night in less than three weeks time. Ken now hosting his own World Kickboxing show in Galway next month for the very first time with a strong line up of local, national and international kickboxing champions on the card.

As well as Horan’s World title fight there will be no less than eleven other bouts in all with Galway’s Laura Newton, Deirdre Newell and Ronnie Fahy all in action from Ken Horan Kickboxing based out of Galway City Gym. Other locals are fighters are Pat McEvoy, Karl Joyce & Mike Joyce. Also there are four white-collar boxers, Pat Riordan, Justin Sheehan, Damian Cawley, & Brian Shaughnessy.

Ken managed to secure another big fight for kickboxing fans across the Isle of Ireland. Belfast’s Gary Hamilton, current professional world champion against England’s current European champion Shawn ‘Boom Boom’ Burton. It promises to be a huge occasion and fascinating night for Irish Kickboxing with the WKN event taking centre stage in the Galway sporting calendar that weekend.

Having gone from strength to strength in recent years the WKN event on April 18th is expected to attract up to 2,000 fans on the night with enormous support expected from all over Galway, Nationwide and indeed from the Polish community’s right across the country.

“It will be a colossal night for Ken Horan, for Galway and for Irish kickboxing and we plan to put on a great show” says Frank Byrnes, Head of Promotions Ken Horan Kickboxing is also holding a charity raffle on the big night for Console - a registered charity supporting and helping people bereaved through suicide.
