Co Down kickboxer David Foster is bringing the Prokick brand closer to home. The much-travelled father of five girls, who has fought in Japan and Switzerland in recent months, will lead the launch of a new Prokick beginners class at Spa Primary School in Ballynahinch. Foster, who enjoyed a victory at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast last month, will welcome new students to a new Get Fit series endorsed by Billy Murray and the Prokick headquarters in Belfast.

The six-week course starts on Thursday at 7:30pm on the 24th of this month and Foster believes he can unearth more talent in the area. He first signed up for a beginner course at Prokick three years ago and is now a qualified instructor.

He said: “There are so many different levels of satisfaction to be gained from kickboxing, from getting fit, improving self-esteem or going all the way into the ring. “It was never my intention to become a fighter but I enjoyed the sport so much I had to give it a try and I loved it.

“Two of my daughters are now in classes and they have become addicted to learning the sport. We have people from all walks of life at Prokick – the majority of the students are there to learn the art and improve their fitness and wellbeing – and have fun.”

Tradesman Foster, who is aiming to take his Black Belt exam in 2012, believes people should forget about New Year get-fit resolutions and start now. “What could be better than sitting down to Christmas dinner having put in six-weeks of training? Don’t wait until the New Year when you have gained even more weight over the holiday period.”

Foster will take students through the fundamentals of fitness, self-defence and can provide free nutrition advice too.

The Ballynahinch Prokick beginners class runs for 45 minutes and the six-week course costs £25. To book your place, simply go online to http://www.prokick.com
