Kickboxing helps kids in different communities work together – ProKick has long been associated with its no nonsense, zero tolerance with bigotry and its goal on all inclusive for different cultures and religions coming together under a common aim… Kickboxing
“Our clubs across Northern Ireland have been cross-community for years. It as an aspect of which we’re very proud.” Said Murray
“Prokick has been built on three fundamental watch words – Truth, Discipline, Respect. They are instilled into our members and they carry them with them at all times. Our members come from both communities – always have done and the same applies when we take Prokick out on the road to different parts of the community.”
Nina McCoy from Scoutlink contacted Prokick after a similar successful cross community project in George Green Community Centre, Bangor last year, to arrange two separate classes. The first which was for the 6-8 year olds held today at the Girl’s model school.
The pupils from the after school cross community project took part in a special training session, taken by four-time world kickboxing champ Billy Murray, designed to promote exercise in a fun way. The kids events are the same as Murray’s Funday classes that he runs for junior members of his famous ProKick gym. At those fundays, Murray’s young students are tested on their skill and development through games that incorporate kickboxing moves without any physical contact.
“It’s all about getting the kids physically active and enjoying it at the same time,” said Murray. “The skill movements in kickboxing can promote coordination in youngsters, they quickly develop strength and fitness and they really, really help confidence. This is a fantastic way for all the kids to get out of arm-chairs and away from computer games and get fit through playing.
