Magee landed in Panama City this week for a few weeks training and climatisation ahead of his fight against Jamie Barboza. The Lisburn fighter feels he is in great shape and wants to use this fight as a stepping stone to re-building his career.

The fight will take place on Saturday, July 30th in San Jose, Costa Rica and will be Magee's first return ring appearance since losing to IBF super-middleweight champion Lucian Bute in Montreal in March. The 35-year-old Belfast fighter was stopped in the 10th round making that just his fourth defeat in a 39 fight professional career.

For those who are unsure of what an interim title may mean, the title itself is a product of the level of contention between the various fighters who are in line to challenge for the WBA Super-Middleweight World Title. In other words, the interim title was created not just to keep the pressure on the current World Champion but is also used as the last step before the belt for anyone wishing to challenge.

Winning this fight will be a huge step forward for Magee and will surely see him as a World Title contender once more.

Magee's manager Pat Magee stated "We’ve been working hard to get him into this position and if he wins the interim title it then means he can be lined up for lucrative fights against the likes of George Groves or James DeGale."
