The WBA light welterweight champion seemed eager and willing to come to Belfast to defend his belt against the well supported Dungiven boxer. However, after a couple of rounds of negotiations, Maidana's camp forced the issue that they still haven’t received a viable or tempting offer and that they have had to move on and look for alternative opponents.
Team McCloskey have confirmed that a fight will happen in February of 2012 in The Odyssey Arena, Belfast but an opponent is still to be named. They have stressed that they will continue to try and make the Maidana fight happen and have reiterated that there is plenty of time between now and February to try and entice the Argentinian World Champ over to Belfast.
We are sure that there are many a fight fan out there that would love to see this match up, be it in Belfast nor not.

McCloskey May Have To Wait For World Crown
Paul McCloskey may yet again be on the wrong side of a decision, this time out of the ring.
