Best’s victory topped off a great night for his Prokick club, which marked up four wins from as many bouts while it celebrated 20 years since it opened in east-Belfast.

Best said: “It’s a great feeling being in the ring but an even better feeling when you win. I was on a downer after my last fight because I didn’t do myself any justice by letting the occasion get to me.
“I was nervous before it and everything I was told in preparation just went out the window. But my focus this time around was much stronger, as was my determination to put things right, says that Glenn hit me with some good knees and low kicks in the last round, but I knew I had to win this fight so I toughed it out and got the victory.”

Veteran coach Billy Murray, the four-time world champ who formed Prokick during his fight career which began 35 years ago, saw his next breed of fighters impress at the Belfast hotel.

Full report on all the fights to follow - just in brief below:
Stuart Jess, Karl McBlain and Johnny Smith all recorded victories. Jess took his fight at just four hours notice – after stepping in to replace injured club-mate Gary Fullerton. Jess showed no sign of ring rust, overcoming Bo Deselbrine with little fuss. Johnny Smith, who was also awarded Prokick’s Fighter of the Year title for 2010, defeated Jonathan Curmi in clinical fashion.
Darren Mcmullan should have been award fighter of the night for an amazing display of kickboxing with the experinced Dutchman Barry Haberland who at time looked at if he was playing and toying with the Belfast fighter, however the Iceman McMullan kept to his game the entire 3 rounds. Great display by both boxers.

Coach Murray, who was taken aback by a surprise gift from his students spanning two decades, said: “It was a small fight card but a massive night in the history of the Prokick Gym. It was special to see so many past pupils – it made me feel old.”
