We just received a message from ProKick member Stephen Houston:
I would just like to express my thanks to everyone for your kind messages at this very difficult time for our family.
It has come as a massive shock and is still quite difficult to get our heads around it all.
Myself and my family want to say thak you to everyone here, we are very touched by the caring nature of you all and has been very comforting to us.
I hope to see you all very soon.
Stephen and the Houston Family
Below is a brief story about the murder investigation:-
Portuguese police are carrying out a murder investigation following the death in the Algarve region of a well-known businessman in Derry from the weekend.
Paul Houston, 51, had been on a golfing holiday with his wife and friends in the village of Alvor.
The body of the businessman, who ran a designer shoe store in Derry, was found lying in the street at around 5am.
It is thought he had been beaten to death in what may have been an attempted robbery and police are awaiting the results of a post mortem.
They are investigating the possibility he was set upon by two men as he returned to the accommodation he was sharing with his wife and another couple.
The group had been socialising together earlier but it is thought Mr Houston stayed on.
Mr Houston lived in Greencastle, Co Donegal and was president of the local golf club where members expressed their deep sadness.
Mr Houston's brothers Kevin and Terry said: 'The family are shocked and devastated by the untimely and tragic death of Paul.
'All of the relevant authorities are working very hard to ensure the return of his remains as quickly as possible.
'We are very grateful for their assistance to his family at this sad time.
'Paul was a very special person and his loss is devastating to our family, his many friends and the community in which he lived and served.'
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is providing consular assistance.
