The cinematic hit “Punch”, which was shot in ProKick Gym and stars head Coach Billy Murray, will be shown on Friday 10th October as part of NI Mental Health Arts & Film Festival.
This is only the second year that the festival has run and it’s almost doubled in size compared to its debut in 2014. The programme has a lot of interesting events but ProKick Gym and NIMHAFF had been holding back on the announcement of the Punch screening due to the hectic schedule of Billy Murray. Even the speediest of typists couldn’t keep up with his momentum, between invites to speak at the United Nations as part of his Peace Fighters initiative and flights booked to New York for Gary Hamilton’s latest match it’s not easy to pinpoint a time in his diary but now we have one. From 8pm – 9pm on Friday 10th October you can see “Punch” the film at ProKick HQ on Wilgar Street, Belfast.
Cinemagic filmmakers Michael Lennox, Patrick Maxwell and Cathy Brady were given just five days last summer to produce the film which features a performance from ProKick`s Billy Murray. The short film has also been shown in Belfast, Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles making Mr Murray`s debut an international one.The film was awarded a standing ovation by Courteney Cox but that`ll come as no surprise when you watch the show yourself.
The film tells the story of a young girl finding a release for her anger and frustration through boxing, and is predominantly set in ProKick Gym. Taken under the wing of Duffy (Billy Murray) and given a glimpse of a life away from juvenile delinquency, the main character Trisha (Bronach Petticrew) begins to gain self-respect and a different outlook on life through a love for sport. Bronach Petticrew gives a stellar performance as the young tearaway Trisha and Billy Murray equals it with his dignified and credible act as Duffy.
A sure sign of success (apart from awards at International film festivals) is the fact that everyone was left wanting more at previous screenings. There may well be a sequel before the gyms` rebuild so film fans won`t have to wait too long...watch this space.
We hope you can make it, if you can come along then bring a cushion to sit on and a bottle of pop to sip – ProKick will supply the popcorn!

Excellent short film that`s set in ProKick itself, with a very familiar co-lead.
