Tyson Fury stops Martin Rogan in the 5th round for the Irish heavyweight title at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. It was 100 years to the day the ill-fated liner the Titanic went down after hitting an Ice-burg on her maiden voyage. Rogan promised to sink Tyson Fury but it was Englishman Fury who was unsinkable on this historic night in Belfast.
Fury struggled a little with veteran Martin Rogan in the early rounds. But in the end, the power of the 6'9" Fury was too much for the 40-year–old battler, and Fury stopped Rogan in the fifth round of with a right-hook to the body.
Fury (18-0, 13 KO) dropped the first two rounds as he seemed overly tentative and slightly bullied by Rogan with his aggression (14-3, 7 KO). Rogan popped back up to his feet and survived the round, but that was the turning point, and it didn't really get better after for Rogan that that.
The fourth round saw Rogan continue to battle, but now the Fury was in control and Fury at that point must have known he could hurt the older man. In the fifth Fury's body shots added up, and put Rogan on the canvas. Rogan through the pain and bravely made it to his feet, but as the fight had started to get a little ugly for Rogan in the round, his corner came into the ring and put an end to the fight, much to Rogan's disappointment.
The questions now, what's next the the Belfast battler Rogan – where does he go from here and is this the end of his line for the Entertainer?
