Lewis said he had worked tirelessly for the past three years to restructure the WBU and continue its lineage after its founder passed away. There are many people in Ireland, not just Rogan and his team of course, that wanted to see the fight happen in Belfast but sadly this was not to be. As far as the event goes, everything is still going ahead as planned however there have been no further details as of yet as to who is headlining the event and if any belts will be on the line.

Rogan had been scheduled to face Panamanian Luis Andres Pineda at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast on October 27th but last Thursday the Belfast Heavyweight fighter was informed by the British Boxing Board Of Control that it would not sanction the contest.

Lewis went on to comment, “How they could deny Martin Rogan the chance of a lifetime to become the first true Irish World Heavyweight champion in history mystifies me. The fans in Ireland want this and Mr Rogan has jumped through all the rings to get to this point."

It is not yet known if Rogan has accepted the offer, but we will post more on thi story as it unfolds here on ProKick.com as it happens.
