Bulgarian Salimov, who won a bronze medal at the 2004 European Amateur Boxing Championships, was pretty much the dominant fighter throughout the early rounds, using his height and reach advatntage to keep Wilton off balance with the long jab. After standing toe to toe for only a few seconds of round three, Wilton landed a powerful left hook to floating rib, which caused Salimov hit the deck. Failing to beat the count, the referee called a halt to the bout and thus adding another convincing KO victory to the young East Belfast boxer's record.

Wilton’s trainer Bernardo Checa, was also very pleased with his performance on the night. Speaking on his win, Checa said, “I’m pleased because he followed the instructions we gave him in the corner. The opponent was taller so we told him to go to the body and that's precisely what he did. I think another one or two fights and he'll be ready for the next step."

When asked how he thought he performed on the night Wilton stated, "I enjoy taking the fight to the body and feel very strong when doing so. I was always a fan of the Ricky Hatton style shots to the body and am glad I was able to use them to win the fight."

Commenting further on what the future has in store, Wilton commented "Bring on the winner of the Paul Edwards v Chris Edwards fight. I think Chris will win it and I’m ready for him as my next opponent. I’m going to be ringside for that one. I wanted to fight Sexton on the Haye-Klitschko card, but he already has an opponent.”
