Over the last few years kickboxing in Northern Ireland established itself as one of the key growth sports in the country but 2008 was when it main streamed. Driven by the inexhaustible commitment and enthusiasm of Belfast’s charismatic Billy Murray, Northern Ireland grew into the European hub of kickboxing. And at the same time it became the driving force in a pan-European peace initiative, launched in tandem with UNICEF, it continued to make inroads with major broadcasters and also pricked the interest of the Queen.
