Its Hamilton’s first boxing bout since his narrow defeat to Jamesy Gorman last October. He has learned from the defeat and is coming back smarter and stronger, say his camp. "Gary just needs a few bouts to get back into stride,” said his boxing manager, Paul McCausland “The Gorman fight was his first boxing contest in a number of years. The move from kickboxing to boxing is difficult. Gary is king in his kickboxing division and if he can harness that focus and punching power he has, he’ll be ready. He has a bright future in boxing.”
Hamilton’s coach and mentor Billy Murray says his man is close to his very best. “He’s physically and mentally ready,” he said. “His sparring and diet is right. Gary is an incredible, fierce competitor. He loves kickboxing and he wants to prove he can take his skills and adapt them for boxing. The lad’s drive is tremendous. He lost narrowly to Gorman and he didn’t let it get his head down. We talked through every punch in that fight, worked out his weaknesses and strengths and focused on both. He’s ready to go now. He’s a great talent and he can straddle both disciplines. He’s a very special fighter.”
