After weeks of negotiations by the WKN (World Kickboxing Network) Mr Cabrera the WKN world president scoured the planet and to find a credible opponent for McAleer's bid for a world title. He announced a top contender, by-way-of a young 20-year-old feisty Muay-Thai fighter from America, Ariana Siegel. Ariana fights out of New York's famous Square Circle fight gym.
Northern Ireland's answer to the 'Karate Kid' is a multi Martial art's champion and former WKN Celtic, British and is current European amateur kickboxing champion. McAleer has fought twice for world kickboxing honours, a narrow loss in France and then a return in Belfast resulting in a draw, with the world champion holding on to the belt. That was last year when she changed to K1 style for a chance of hitting the big time, now it's back to full-contact rules and has been for her last four big fights.
Promoter Billy Murray said: " I'm really excited about Cathy's world title shot, Cathy has unfinished business in this sport, she is unfulfilled and wants to complete her destiny - to become a World Kickboxing Champion.... her time is NOW!
There are two other WKN Pro-Am world titles also up for Grabs on this KICKmas Cracker which is packed with a 'Festive Feast of Fists n Feet'. Darren 'The IceMan' McMullan and Samantha 'Terror from Tyrella' Robb will defend their WKN Pro-Am world titles. Bangor's Johnny 'Swift' Smith will be the semi-main event, with another goal in sight - to become a professional world kickboxing champion, but first, he has his Professional debut to take care off. And that's not all, The fiery Swiss fighter, Killian Emery will feature alongside ProKick rising teenage talent, Dundonald’s Jake McCreedy. And if that is not all we have another top professional European fighter to fill up your KICKmas stocking."
We hope to have Ariana's thoughts on the fight and about travelling to Belfast for her chance of world glory.
