Championship action at the
Hilton
The Hilton hotel in Strathclyde was the venue for a double
world title header last weekend, staged by Scotland’s top kickboxing
promoter Gary Langford. A capacity crowd witnessed an excellent evening
of top class fight action. Two Northern Irish fighters took centre
stage in world title challenges.
AMAZING
Gary Noade won a THIRD world crown at the age of
39. Downpatrick’s dynamo shook world champion Douglas
Morrison in front of a home crowd to secure the welterweight
crown in a dramatic points win. Noade's achievement came despite
a scare in the third when the veteran fighter found himself on the
seat of his pants, (even though the ref said ‘no knockdown’)
in the third and
in round five he was also stunned by a kick to the head, Noade had
to go before the ringside doctor with a deep cut, but was allowed
to continue. Knowing time was against him, Noade stepped up his
work-rate to overdrive - and with a blistering combination Morrison
found himself on the floor in round six. Morrison bravely held out
for the final bell before handing his belt over to Noade.
Wilson
Snoddy from Larne was in world title action but lost out
narrowly on points after seven rounds of an intense battle with
defending WKN
champion Chris Carslow. A performance to be proud
of though, having stepped in as a late replacement with just two
days notice. Chris Carslow of Paisley is sure to be a big star for
the future.
Dundela football star Brian Boyd is the new British
super-welterweight
champion. Boyd, got off to a shaky start in the first round for
his challenge against champion Stephen
Kitchner at the Hilton Hotel, but regrouped well to win
with a second round stoppage after a thunderous kick to the body
- the Champion from Aberdeen was counted out by the referee.
Craigavon’s
Super-heavyweight James Gillen stopped Barry
Lang in round third of a scheduled four round contest.
The Irish champion looked good from the off landing punishing blows
from both feet and hands. James now wants to campaign at heavyweight,
if he makes the lighter division he should be a force to be reckon
with.
Undisputed Super middleweight world champion Lex
Easdon also took part in the event, in
a prestige bout over five rounds. He squared up against Dubliner
Jonathan Lewins, a new kid on the block with over
20 fights under his belt. The bout went the distance with Easdon
taking a close points decision – well done to the Irish man
for giving a good performance of
himself. This is only the champions second bout after a long lay-off
with a medical problem which he has the all clear now. Lex is hoping
to find the form he had when he won titles in all the major sanction
bodies before he defends his WKN world title at the end of August.
The next dinner show at the Hilton will be on October 24th –
Prokick will run a Pre-Christmas shopping and dinner trip - hotel
night, fight night ticket to support a N, Ireland select Vs a Scottish
select. More detail on request.
