Pop
Idol sensation Darius Danesh was at Down Royal racecourse on Sunday
(12 September) to take part in a sing along with new girl band 411.
The 6 foot 4 Scott, took time out of his busy schedule and met up
with Billy Murray and some of the ‘Lady Killers’ who’ll
be taking part in Europe’s first ever female only fight card
next month.
He was so impressed at the Prokick stable that he may come back
to see more – Billy hopes that Darius excepts the invitation
to the show which takes place in the Holiday Inn Hotel (Belfast)
on October 30. Pop Idol Darius is releasing his new single in October
and told Billy that if his schedule permits he’d love to come
over to watch the event - and who knows he may even bring his guitar
along.
“We’re all very excited about the possibility
of Darius attending our Lady-Killers event – but no more than
my girl fighters, said Billy. “I thought my girls were tough
but when they all met the man with the X factor, their legs turned
to jelly - even battle hardened Irish champion Lydia Braniff and
top Prokick female coach Gail Hagan – they were all Ko’d
by his looks and charm.”
“A major event on this scale has never been attempted in Europe
before.” Said the former world beater, Murray. “ We’re
going to have at least 10 high-class battles on the night. Fight
fans will be able to see local heroine Lydia Braniff try to add
the British title to the Irish crown she has just taken. They’ll
be able to see rising stars Stephanie Wilson, Fran 'SuperKick' Spence,
top female coach Gail Hagan and Andrea McAllister - fiancée
of world champion Gary Hamilton, plus lots more. They’ll be
able to see just why female fighters are no longer second fiddle
to the men, but are starting to lead the way.”
Recent
figures suggest that Kickboxing in Northern Ireland was about
to become dominated by female competitors. In some cases gyms are
reporting a membership spilt of 60/40 female to male, a turnaround
from the 10/90 of just a few years ago.
Tickets for The Lady-killers show are on-sale
from the ProKick 24 hour hotline 02890 651074. They cost from £15-20.
