'Kickboxing set for Comber '

Eddie Salmon pictured (left) with manager Mr Lee Madden general manager of the Days Inn Belfast and main sponsor of the event Down gave kickboxing a world champion in Gary Noade and an Intercontinental champion with Paul Day, now the sport is paying the county back with a showcase event next week.
The Next Generation bandwagon, a show that puts on display a new breed of kickboxing hopefuls, rolls into Comber on August 20 and will take over the town’s leisure centre with the promise of an all-action fight card.
Comber latest wannabe's, who debuted recently in Belfast, will mark their second bout and will be hoping to add to other winners for the North Down area.
North Down's Next Generation, sponsored by Days Inn Hotel, Whale Pumps and Budget Windows, will be promoted by Newtownards instructor Eddie Salmon. It is his promotional debut. ( Eddie Salmon pictured above with manager Mr Lee Madden general manager of the Days Inn Belfast)
“I’ve been involved with the sport for a good number of years as a competitor, a coach and most recently as the master of ceremonies,” he said.
“I wanted to bring some of the thrills and excitement of a show to the people who have made kickboxing more popular in county Down.”
Legendary kickboxing figure Billy Murray is working alongside Salmon.
“Kickboxing is very well served in Belfast,” he said.
“We have the ProKick Gym HQ and many events there every year. But I’m keen to develop the sport in other areas. We had a Next Generation event in Derry recently and it’s important that the local men with a passion for the sport, like Eddie, roll their sleeves up and get involved with the promotions.”
There will be a total of six novice full-contact fights on the Comber card, alongside some established names. It will be topped off with a Prokick Kids competition as part of their build-up for an international event against Switzerland.
Tickets are available through the Prokick hotline 028 9065 1074, priced £7 for adults and £2.50 for kids.
