'Boot camp Continues to build
new City Icons'

Log onto ProKick.com tomorrow and find out where the team has been.

Murray’s men have been meeting every morning at 6.00am to pound the city streets as part of Billy’s Bootcamp – a military-like training regime readying them for an upcoming kickboxing event. And that’s aside from their regular evening training.
“This is as tough as I’ve ever trained any set of fighters,” he said. “Our fighters have had good successes of late and I want to keep it that way. So I’m pushing them right to the limit to see who has the appetite for real big stage victories.
“We start every morning at 6.00am for a three mile run. Then we do a training session in the gym for a further 30 minutes. It’s circuit training and body conditioning - just good, old fashioned, no- nonsense hard work,” explained veteran former world champ Murray. “The programme runs from Monday – Saturday and I’ve been delighted by the dedication and turnout every day.
“We have some talented young men here who could become a new generation of champions – and we’re led out every day by Dessie McCartney, who at 58 is the oldest man in our ProKick gym. He cycles with the pack every morning if he can't run and that is rare!”
The event that Murray’s men are getting ready for takes place at the Park Avenue Hotel in Belfast on June 24. It’s a day and night double header that will see a host of young fighters compete in the afternoon and some big names – such as Gary Hamilton, Andrew Grimason and Lydia Brandiff – fight in the evening.
And while they can’t take in the glorious early morning views of Belfast, you can. So have a look again at the City Hall & HW – icons of old Belfast – framing these tough, great men – the icons of a new Belfast.
