“Glens boss putting his boot in for good measure”

Glentoran boss Paul Millar gave the club’s full-time duo Gary Browne and Phillip Simpson a good kicking yesterday.
The pair underwent an intensive training session conducted by kickboxing legend Billy Murray at his famous Prokick Gym, with the new Glens boss putting his boot in for good measure.
Along with Millar and former Linfield star-turned kickboxer Ian Young, Browne and Simpson came through a gruelling one-hour session – the first of a new routine set down by Millar.

“I wanted something different for the players, especially the full-time players,” said Millar.
“Kickboxing was recommended to me and when kickboxing is mentioned there’s only one person in Northern Ireland you turn to, Billy Murray.
“I asked Billy about the possibility of training players and he put the whole thing together without a fuss. I really enjoyed the session and the player did too. There is a fun side to it too but I think the players knew by the end of the hour they had been through a good routine.
“It’s a long-term thing I’m looking at. I want to add variety to training and I know kickboxing will give the players a different kind of fitness and interest.”

Coach Murray, a former four-time world champion, reckons Browne and Simpson will reap the rewards of their new training regime within weeks.
“In my experience I have had sports people from everywhere try out kickboxing as an alternative method of training and they have all benefited.
“It’s something that was a big success for Waterford United in the eircom League and recently we staged a session for Glenavon players.
“My door is always open but it is particularly pleasing to have Paul Millar and two of his team members here at ProKick.”
