A
NEW GROUP of kickboxers may well have thought Sunday afternoon’s
are all about sitting in front of the TV eating the Sunday roast.
Well, now they know different - to be the best in any field - coaching
or competing then Sunday afternoons are best spent sweating it out
in the gym, that's if they are to earn their spurs as kickboxers
and to excel to the next level in Northern Ireland’s fastest
growing sport.
It was a busy weekend for the gym’s new starts as over 50
adults took a step up the ladder of excellence taking their grading
in yellow, orange and green belts.
“It’s not the holiday season for ProKick,” said
a tired but delighted Murray. “Congratulations to all those
who passed their grading. It’s a mark of their hard work,
talent and application.”
A grading is when kickboxing students, non-contact and contact,
are assessed through a series of levels / grades, with the base
level being White Belt, through ten levels, finally reaching a Dan
grade at black belt, which is equivalent, if you like, to a degree
level in kickboxing. This type of achievement would take, on average,
between five and eight years.
