Spanish kickboxing superstar Rafa Del
Toro is breaking sweat on his honeymoon – in Billy Murray’s
modest east-Belfast gym!
Rather than wine and dine his bride, the Gran Canaria-based Spanish
champion is spending his days – and nights – at the Prokick
Gym making sure he is prepared for competitive duty this summer.
Del Toro is the current Spanish low-kick champion, boasting a record
of 31 fights, two draws and just 3 defeats. In Spain the sport is
run by two bodies, the Federation of Spanish Kickboxing (FEKB) and,
bizarrely, the Federation of Spanish Kickboxing (FEK). Neither body
will budge on changing its name!
But Del Toro rules both of them with a host of titles including honours
in full-contact and Thai fighting. “I knew that the Prokick
Gym was the place to look up on my visit to Belfast,” said Del
Toro. “Billy Murray is well known throughout the kickboxing
world, so it was easy to find his gym once I typed his name into the
internet! It’s a busy place and I was made to feel very welcome.
“I run my own gym in Spain so I know how important it is to
leave a good impression on visitors and I have been very impressed
by the warmth of the Prokick Gym.”
