Brawl on the Wall Press day

The full fight card to the upcoming Brawl On the Wall kickboxing event was unveiled in Derry yesterday.
A host of kickboxing stars including world champ Gary Hamilton were joined by TV’s Joe Lindsay, Derry Deputy Lord mayor Patricia Logue and four time world champion turned promoter Billy Murray.
The September 29 event, set for the Maiden City’s Millennium Centre, will see an incredible 11 bout – including two European titles. Local hero Darren Dougan, of Magherafelt, will top the bill heading as he attempts to win the European Middleweight crown.
“It’s going to be an explosive night of action and thrills,” said Murray. “We have worked hard to put on one hell of a show. We have drawn in some of the best fighters across Europe who’ll take on some of the best across Ireland. There is such a strong following for the sport in the North West and they deserve a fitting event. This will be the biggest and best there has been in the area and we know fight fans who manage to secure tickets will love it.”

There was a moment of high drama at the launch of the card when heavyweights James Gillen of Portadown and  Dylan Scally of Dublin meet ahead of their bout. They will contest the Irish super heavyweight crown on at the Forum. When posing for pictures, there was a bit of pushing and shoving and associates of both men had to jump in to pull them apart.
“There is no love lost between them,” said Murray. “Like all good heavyweights, they each think they are the best and everyone else is a chancer. There was a big of agro but we got it under control and convinced them to keep it for the thing. There is still the weigh-in to come for these man mountains, so watch this space!”
