EVER popular TV personality Joe Lindsay is so fond of his new sport of kickboxing that he’s about to fly several hundred miles to have men spit at him.
The lanky presenter hasn’t enraged any of the sport’s fighters – instead he has been asked to be cornerman for a number of Northern Irish kickboxers at a prestigious event in Switzerland this Saturday, December 8.
Lindsay first came to kickboxing a few months ago when he went into Billy Murray’s highly respected Prokick gym to make a piece on his Inside Out show. He was so taken by the sport that he started to train. He has since taken his Yellow and Orange belts and has MCed a major kickboxing event in Derry. But he has now taken a further step and will be part of the competitive ProKick team.
“Joe said he wanted to be more involved so I said there was a vital cog missing,” said Murray. “It’s great experience for him to be our bucket-boy! Everybody has to start somewhere, I keep telling him.
“He has been great for ProKick since he started, both in his enthusiasm for the sport and the way he encourages all the gym members with his commitment to training. I keep telling him I want to get him into the ring to compete, but this is a good start.”
Joe wants the press to really get behind our home successes and one of them being kickboxing, “Prokick, the home of champions has become a huge part of my life this year and kickboxing is something I care very much about, to the point where I feel it isn't covered enough, even though Prokick currently boasts 4 world champions and 4 European champions. I love supporting the boys in tournaments and the sense of camaraderie and community within the gym is just brilliant. I can't wait to get ringside and be hollering and cheering with the rest of them. This bout is going to be a big, big thrill!"
The event takes place in Martigny, just an hour outside of Geneva towards the Swiss Alps.
