Falls and Shankill Roads are fighting again

It’s not often that news of a fight involving the Falls and Shankill Roads is good news, but this time that’s exactly what it is.
And it’s all down to former world champion kickboxer Billy Murray!
Both sides of the community will come together as one team in a celebration of kickboxing at the Falls Leisure Centre on March 25.
The event will see some rising stars from across Belfast test themselves against some of the brightest names nationally and internationally.
“The ProKick Falls club has been running for a year now and we’ve decided to celebrate one of our fastest growing centres of kickboxing excellence with a fantastic international kickboxing event,” said Murray. “And what a great way to help build our strong community spirit - not by competing against one another but by taking on all-comers as one team. Our clubs across Northern Ireland have been cross-community for years. It as an aspect of which we’re very proud. But this event marks the time north and west Belfast has come together in this way. Later in the year, we plan to have an event with Falls based fighters competing on the Shankill. This is just the beginning!
Heavyweight James Gillen – a former double Irish champion – will headline the event. Gillen, who took the Celtic Nations title from Scotland’s Gary McCleary in a second round knockout at the Hilton hotel in October last year had six fights in 2006 and won them all by knockout. He’s the current instructor at the Falls Road club and he’s keen to show, on his training patch, the sort of form that brought him national titles.
