‘PROKICK
SAYS’ children’s competition day saw the Prokick kids
come out in force for another successful fun-day at the Gyms headquarters
in Belfast at the weekend.
Over 50 kickboxing mad underage talents took part in the event,
with the main aims based on improving fitness, discipline and co-ordination.
Our monthly competition for kickboxing mad kids started in January
2006 and been running every month since. “The kids love the
competition doing all the kickboxing moves without taking the blows.
It's perfect for them as underage members are not allowed to compete
in full-contact kickboxing until they are 15 years of age. So, from
the age of five they are learning the art of kickboxing but not
the application.” Said Prokick oldest fighter ‘Rocky
Desi’ aged 63 this month, who was special judge for the day.
“I wanted to give the young members an opportunity to put
their skills into practice, mixing competition with fun.”
Murray went on to say, “We rolled a number of games into one
big occasion and the kids love it. Everyone is a winner and everyone
goes home with a medal. It’s important to us at Prokick Gym
that children learn about self-discipline, self-defence and grow
up in a respected and disciplined environment.
The next Prokick Says fun day will take place in March at the Wilgar
Street gym in east-Belfast with the next instalment on March 24.
Winners on
the day were:
Matthew McAlees, Chelsea Leigh Swift, Dylan Lennox, Tori
Corbett, Sacha Burns, Zaffron Murray, Cameron Shiel, Katdie McAlees
and Amie Wilson.
Well done to all who took part.
Follow, Follow is a racing fitness
game. The children are seated in lines, Mr Murray calls out someone’s
name and all the children follow that person until they’re
told to go back to their lines and the last one to sit down in their
original place is out.
Multiple Kicks: Whoever can kick the longest without setting
their foot back on the ground wins.
Prokick says: – kickboxing version
of Simon says. Kickboxing moves are called out for the children
to do; only they can’t do them unless a number is called after
the move. If they do the move without the number being called then
they are out. Last one standing wins.
