ROCKY BALBOA has nothing on Belfast pensioner Desi McCartney. The 61-year-old aims to go back between the ropes in his native city on March 25th at The Falls Leisure centre – two years after making his debut.
The elder statesman of the Prokick Gym, who will clash with Adrian Murphy at the Falls Leisure Centres first kickboxing event next month, says Hollywood’s much-loved boxing hero could learn a few tricks from him.
“That Rocky fella doesn’t know what real training is,” said the confident grandfather.
“I’m out on the roads every morning at 6am with Billy Murray and that’s before I go to work. When my work is done I go back to the gym and spar with fighters half my age and even younger. If Rocky Balboa thinks he is battling with mid-life crisis, he ain’t got nothing on me!” More on the real Rocky as it develops.
