North West’s biggest ever kickboxing event is heading to Derry city’s Millennium Forum.
The show, which is the first ever co-production to happen in the north west between the respected ProKick Group and local hero Darren Dougan, was pencilled in to take place on Thursday August 30. but will now sound its first bell on Saturday September 29. The Prokick group postponed the show in hope of securing a Saturday night to stage the event. Alongside of this Murray must now travel to Vegas in August for the K1 Grand Prix where he’s been negotiating for many years to bring the Mega show to Northern Ireland.
“The timing just wasn’t right for this event for August 30th apart from a being a week night which is difficult to bring in the full international line-up that we have planned for the show. We also need a bit longer to plan the event to guarantee its success.” said Murray

Dougan himself, the Magherafelt based Celtic nations title holder, will headline the show and will challenge for a major title.
“This is exciting news for kickboxing in the north west,” said co promoter and fighter Dougan,
“The spread of talent up here is remarkable and the hunger for fight fans for big, proper shows grows all the time. I have no doubt that the show will be dynamite. It’s the start of what I hope will be a long, happy association in major events with Prokick.”
Billed as ProKick On The Road, the event will also see Linfield football star turned ring hero Ian Young defend his European title. A host of local fighters coached by Co Derry’s Dougan will also appear on the card.
Former four time world champion Billy Murray said “Darren has been the driving force for the sport in that part of Northern Ireland for some time through his club in The Loup. We, at ProKick, have been working with him to help get some smaller shows on the go. But this is a major step-up from small hall shows.”
It has also been announced that renowned hair products company Schwarzkopf will sponsor the show. It’s the third time recently that Schwarzkopf have been involved after they also backed a show at the Falls Leisure Centre and the more recent Italian Job II.
Company area director Brendan Thompson, a keen kickboxing fan, said he was delighted to continue the links with the sport, especially with the involvement of ProKick.
“Schwarzkopf are a grade A company and we’re happy to be associated with another grade A promotion run by Billy Murray’s group. This is an ongoing investment from us.”
