Murray and team went back to school .

The ProKick kids along with Brookland’s head Mr D McCartney and his assistant Mrs Clare Walker Over 200 east Belfast school-kids and their parents found out what it really means to be a champion during a unique event this week.
The pupils at Brooklands Primary in Dundonald took part in a special training session, taken by four-time world kickboxing champ Billy Murray, designed to promote exercise in a fun way.
The event was put together by Brookland’s head Mr D McCartney and his assistant Mrs Clare Walker after they read about Murray’s Funday classes that he runs for junior members of his famous ProKick gym.
At those fundays, Murray’s young students are tested on their skill and development through games that incorporate kickboxing moves without any physical contact.

“It’s all about getting the kids physically active and enjoying it at the same time,” said Murray. “The skill movements in kickboxing can promote coordination in youngsters, they quickly develop strength and fitness and they really, really help confidence. This is a fantastic way for all the kids to get out of arm-chairs and away from computer games and get fit through playing.

“Other elements like self-defence are part of the long-term development of a student and that comes later. At such an early stage, it’s all about them having a ball. If they love it now, they'll stay with sport later.”

Murray said he'd like to take more classes into schools across Northern Ireland.
