Belfast City Mayor Honours Belfast Business Woman

There were no short cuts today when one of Northern Ireland’s leading hairdressers celebrated two decades in business for her award winning salon.
Adele Robinson who is known in the kickboxing world for her fair judging and tight officiating around the ringside, not just at home events but all over the world in big title fights. those outside the kickboxing world will better know her as a British Hairdresser of The Year, saw her Company Haircutters as busy as ever and realised that though there was cause for a party, there was no time to lay down the scissors and relax.
Company Haircutters opened on the Bloomfield Avenue in 1987 and in that time has built up an international reputation.

Her trademark style – which has been called upon for a succession of glossy magazine shoots and has led to a packed diary meaning her devoted regular customers need to book weeks ahead – won her the top hairdressing prize in 1999.

Today, Adele wondered where the time had gone.
“When we opened in 1987 there were 6 stylists and we hoped to be able to take our love of what we’re doing to the people of Belfast. Now, we have a team of 18 staff and we have built an international reputation. It has been a wonderful, amazingly busy 20 years that feels as though it has gone by in the blink of an eye.”

There was double joy in Company as receptionist Cara McDonald celebrated her 20th birthday too.
“It’s mad to think I was born on the day Company opened,” she said. “When I came for the job I noticed a plaque that said the day it was opened and I realised it was my birthday and I thought it was an omen. I so wanted to work here – it has such a great reputation. But it’s also so welcoming and I really don’t want to ever work anywhere else!”

As well as running a renowned salon, Adele works with her boyfriend Billy Murray, the former world champion kickboxer, during his kickboxing event promotions. He was understandably proud of Adele reaching the 20 year mile-stone.

“She has put everything into Company and I think anyone who comes in immediately feels this is a special place,” he said. “She has great vision and I’m also told she’s a wonderful and understanding boss.
That’s a side she keeps for work!

“There were many people in today to congratulate her and she deserves every word and accolade. She has created a wonderful place and long may it continue.”
