The ‘PROKICK SAYS’ children’s competition day was another resounding success at the Prokick Gym in Belfast this week.
Over 30 underage talents took part in the event aimed at improving fitness, discipline and co-ordination.
The fun day also gives young kickboxers an opportunity to experience competition using their martial art skills.
Prokick coach Billy Murray said: “Underage members are not allowed to compete in full-contact kickboxing until they are 15 years of age. So, from the age of five they are learning the art of kickboxing but not the application.
“I want to give the young members an opportunity to put their skills into practice, mixing competition with fun. The idea stems from a game we have played for many, many years at the gym, Prokick Says, our version of Simple Simon Says.
“We have rolled a number of games into one big occasion and the kids love it. Everyone was a winner and everyone went home with a medal. It’s important to us at Prokick Gym that children learn about self-discipline, self-defence and grow up in a respected and disciplined environment.”
The Prokick Says fun day takes place once a month at Wilgar Street gym in east-Belfast.

Follow, Follow is a racing fitness game. The children are seated in lines, Mr Murray calls out someone’s name and all the children follow that person until they’re told to go back to their lines and the last one to sit down in their original place is out.
Winner for the girls is Sophie Higginson
Winner for the boys - Leith Braiden

Multiple Kicks: Whoever can kick the longest without setting their foot back on the ground wins.
Winner Dylan Lennox

Shadow boxing: is when you combine all the kickboxing moves that students have learnt are puttogether against an invisible opponent or (as they did many years ago) your own shadow.
A competition was held to see who was the best shadow boxer on the day.
Winner: Chanise Fullerton

Prokick says: – kickboxing version of Simon says. Kickboxing moves are called out for the children to do; only they can’t do them unless a number is called after the move. If they do the move without the number being called then they are out. Last one standing wins.
Winner: Jack Hull

Frezee: This is to taste the kids focus. Last one to not move or even blink is the winner
