It was high noon at Eastside when the British Boxing Board of Control brought two fighters face-face for a check weigh-in ahead of Saturday night's big fight night at the Park Avenue hotel. Belfast's kickboxing hero Gray Hamilton will square up against experienced journeyman Jamesy Gorman, who fights out of Alan Wilton’s Gym, for the Northern Ireland lightweight professional boxing crown over 10x3 minute rounds.
BBB of C's general secretary for Northern Ireland, John Campbell weighed both fighters as a mandatory safety precaution. The big professional boxing match is the first in 50 years for the Park Avenue hotel. And old boxing pundits would probably turn in their graves as the match is being promoted by a woman. Jane Wilton from Belfast Promotions is Northern Ireland's first female Boxing Promoter and has managed to put a cracking fight card together, and there's nothing girlie about that.
