Since the ProKick gym posted a video interview with rising star Barrie Oliver on their website, they have been inundated with emails asking for more pictures of him. The 20 year old from Killinchy has been building a gang of young female fans because he bears a striking resemblance to a young Brad Pitt. Check out the video
“It started as a trickle but the word obviously went around and built into a flood,” said Oliver’s head coach and former four time world champion Billy Murray. “I’ve got them in the Barrie folder. I think I’m going to have to start a special Barrie gallery on the site. Kickboxers are not always blessed with the best looks so Barrie sticks out a bit. I think he’s a little embarrassed by all the attention. He’s a talented young kickboxer and has a bright future and his head hasn’t been turned yet. Maybe the fans think he’s in Fight Club. If it keeps up we’ll have to find him an Angelina!”
Oliver only started his ring career in March. It was a notable bow both because of his stylish victory and because his mother went into labour in the venue car park – in Belfast’s Falls Road Leisure Centre – such was the excitement of seeing her eldest take to the ring.
The talented lad will be hoping some of the new fans follow him to the Millennium Centre in Derry City on September 29. He’ll be part of the biggest ever kickboxing event that the Maiden City has seen at the Brawl On The Wall promotion. He’ll join a host of other Irish kickboxing stars as they take on the cream of Europe in a night of quality action.
The undercard for the 'Brawl on the Wall’ will see fighters from Germany, Switzerland, France, Slovakia as well as the home nations pitted against fighters from Belfast’s renowned Prokick gym.
Many tickets are now gone though a few at £15 are still available online at www.ProKickshop.com or through the Millennium Forum box office. For more information on kickboxing and a new Prokick club coming to Derry City call 028 9065 1074
