DYLAN SCALLY, the kickboxer - fans are dubbing the Mullingar Man Mountain, has warned he is going to give heavyweight James Gillen a “beating” when they meet in a bad blood clash later this month. Hugely experienced Gillen, who fights out of the ProKick Gym, has held a succession of titles over the last number of years. He and Scally are set to meet in a bruising battle for the Irish WKN ( World Kickboxing Network) super-heavyweight title at the upcoming Brawl On The Wall in Derry City’s Millennium Forum on September 29. There was some pre-fight aggro at the official launch of the event last week when both heavyweights had to be kept apart by their respective camps. And the bad feeling is escalating as the meeting comes ever closer. “James is a big guy, and has had a lot of titles, but this is one he will never have,” said an up-for-it Scally. “I plan to be the champion for a long time and I’m going to give James Gillen such a beating that no one will challenge me for the title until I decide to call it a day.” Scally, who is now based in Dublin, started kickboxing competitively in 2005. He has slimmed down from a scales-busting 21st stone to 16stone for this fight. It will be under Thai rules rather than the more familiar full contact rules. The 30 year is no stranger to conflict. He worked as bodyguard in South Africa for five years before returning to Ireland where he set up his own company offering executive bodyguard services for rich businessmen travelling to Dublin. To add to his impressive portfolio, he also works for the Israeli embassy in Dublin as a bodyguard. “He’s an impressive kickboxer,” said Gillen’s coach Billy Murray. “Ireland doesn’t produce an awful lot of heavyweights, but when we do they are quality. James has much more experience than Scally. He’ll take that into the ring – alongside a need to rub Scally’s nose in it. I don’t think he’ll like anyone saying he’ll take a beating!” Gillen has so far kept quiet but its certain that as this war of words builds, the big Portadown man will have something to say. The Brawl on The Wall will see a host of other Irish kickboxing stars take on the cream of Europe in a night of quality action.
