Kickboxer from Down-Under
L-R Martin & Astrid soon to be married Over the years Prokick Gym has played host to many top Martial Artists from across the globe. But this week we got a taster from kickboxing Down-under - as Australian ladies kickboxing & Kyokushin Karate champion Astrid Davis dropped in for a sparring session with Prokick’s top guns Gary Hamilton and Gary Noade on Saturday. Astrid is currently in N. Ireland with fiancée Martin McNally, originally of Randalstown for their wedding in August and contacted Murray after attending kickboxing Mania VI event at the start of June. The two were extremely impressed with the event co-ordination and quality of fights and decided to contact the ProKick in order to try an get involved with events here and in return organise events in conjunction with Murray back in Australia.

Astrid with groupAstrid is a towering 6ft1 and at the age of 24 she boasts a remarkable wealth of experience. She started training in 1999 and after a few months decided to join the Uchi Deshi program, dedicated to her training she wanted to excel as a Martial Artist and that she did. In just four years she proved to have tremendous proficiency and earned her black belt. In 1999 she also launched her competitive career and began to build an almost perfect record in kickboxing and the tough art of Kyokushin Karate. In 2001 became the ISKA Australian champion, one year later she travelled to Japan to compete in the Kyokushin Karate world championships and picked up a silver medal.
Having looked at the impressive CV and seen Astrid in action on Saturday, Murray has happily agreed to work with the couple. In fact Murray has already got the ball rolling and Astrid will compete in Belfast at his event in September before returning to Australia. She will make up part of the under card to Gary Hamilton’s attempt at becoming the undisputed featherweight King of the world & the winner takes all 8 man knock-out tournament to find the best welterweight.
