Nick Baird heads to Germany

Rising kickboxing star Nick Baird headed to Germany this week in a bid to lift the European super middle-weight Kickboxing crown.
Saintfield man Baird, nicknamed the ‘Saintfield Stunner’ because of his matinee idol looks, will travel to Rostock on November 9 to battle German title holder Litshko for the vacant title.
It will mark Baird’s first major fight since he underwent an appendectomy in the summer. The operation knocked his training regime back several months, just as he was rising swiftly through the ranks.
“Nick’s recovery from the operation has been incredible,” said his coach Billy Murray of the ProKick Gym in east Belfast. “Doctors thought he’d be out for the rest of the year. But he was in great shape before he went under the knife and that helped him recover quickly.”
Baird is already Irish and British title holder. He took the British title in June at Kickboxing Mania VI in the Ulster Hall.
“If he remains focused, he could become a very big force indeed,” said Murray.
Baird will hoping to parade his European belt in the Ulster Hall on December 22 at the Kickmas Box. The festive feast of fists and feet will two of the north’s world Champions – Gary Hamilton and Gary Noade – top the bill in world title clashes.
A full under-card pits the best of local talent against a host of European rising stars.
As a special Christmas treat for Kickboxing and fight fans, there will be a limited number of ‘KICKmas Box’ family tickets available. A group of four, two adults and two children - can pick up a ticket for just £25 – that’s a 50% saving. Tickets otherwise are £15 - £25 ringside. Tickets are available through ProKick and affiliated gyms on 028 90 651074 For further details, check back here at prokick.com.
