Doctors called it the Maradona injury

Eddie Salmon has had to bow out of his upcoming ring return One of Prokick's up-and-coming kickboxers Eddie Salmon has had to bow out of his upcoming ring return after a freak sporting accident in Spain.
The promising light middleweight broke two fingers and a knuckle playing football on holiday last week and will be sidelined for at least three months, ruling him out of his September bout.
“I was just getting up after a tackle and the ball was kicked against my hand,” said Salmon. “It jarred the fingers and ruptured the knuckle. It was an absolute freak. The doctors called it the Maradona injury because they said he had a few knocks like that in his playing days. I’ve never heard of those injuries. Maybe they meant I have the hand of God.”
Salmon was due to fight at Belfast’s Park Avenue Hotel on September 25 as part of the latest series of Next Generation shows – a series of events designed for amateur novices and first-timers.
“It’s a shame for Eddie as he has been training hard and had been looking forward to getting back into the ring,” said his coach Billy Murray of the ProKick Gym. “Once it heals, he’ll be back in training I have no doubt and ready for the next one. He’s a great prospect.”
Rising local heroes Bill Morrow, the Cully brothers and east Belfast express Andrew Grimason have all been confirmed for the show. Tickets for the event will be on-sale July 19 from the ProKick
Ticketline on 028 9065 1074. All 500 seats for the last Next Generation event sold out within 36 hours so you are advised to book early.
