BOXING WITH A KICK

Paul McCausland, with two boxing fansBELFAST fight fans in store for unique fight night as boxers and kickboxers square up in the same ring but on two separate shows with just an hour apart.
The Hilton hotel show scheduled for October 28, will be promoted by former four-time world champion Billy Murray and boxing promoter Paul McCausland, the pair will offer fight fans the opportunity to witness the best of both sports under one roof but two separate shows.
Sanctioned by the World Kickboxing Network and the British Boxing Board of Control, it promises to be the first of many shows, according to promoters Murray and McCausland.
“The idea of boxing and kickboxing shows together under one roof is one for the future and it’s going to become a big attraction in Northern Ireland,” Murray said. “We will run a kickboxing show under the WKN’s banner and after an interval, run a boxing event under the guidance of the British Boxing Board of Control.”
So, is it manageable?
“Of course it is,” added Murray. “The kickboxing show will begin early evening and a 60-minute interval will allow for the British Boxing Board of Control’s officials and doctors to take their places before the first bout starts the second showcase.
“It’s two very different organisations promoting two very different shows but on the same date and at the same venue – the real winner is the fight fan.
“Anyone who buys a ticket for the Boxing or kickboxing will see some of the best local fighters this country has to offer.” Boxing’s Paul McCausland added, “ This event has been a long time in the making, Billy and I have worked well together in the past this will be another recipe for success. The fans are also a winner with tickets prices at a very affordable price - the Boxing in set at £15 and the kickboxing is the same. I’m really excited about the venture and what a night of non-stop action we have in store for Belfast fight fans.”
The astute Murray, who has been running kickboxing events throughout Ireland for over 25 years knows his loyal band of students will return after the interval to support colleagues Hamilton and Braniff, who will share the boxing bill with Ciaran Healy a more household boxing name.
