Darren Dougan (Winner points)(NI) Vs David Wachs (Germany)
Co Derry's Darren Dougan was true to his word by saying he would 'beat him' and he did and he brought a roar. It wasn't the prettiest of fights but it was one of the most exciting Brawls and the event lived up to its name - 'Brawl on the Wall'.
The man local man they call 'Lethal' Darren Dougan ripped the WKN European middleweight crown of the ranked No1 in Europe in front of a delighted and packed house at the Millennium Forum.
The points victory over German David Wachs has led his coach Billy Murray to signal the intent for a stab at a world title.
"This was a thriller from start to finish," said Murray. "It's not often all the fight-talk lives up to the big night, but this meeting between the two did! And now country Derry has its first WKN middleweight kickboxing European champion.
"It was a very smart, tactical fight from Darren in the opening rounds. But the popular middleweight was forced to change tactics half way through as the German was beating Dougan to the punch - Dougan had the hunger and he matched that with big fight guile as he harried and hassled the German and the title back to Derry. He has shown he has the armoury now to challenge for a world crown. We'll go away now and see where best to move next, maybe a defence and then a challenge for world honours back at the Millennium Forum."
It was a night of success for many of Dougan's training partners at ProKick.
