WKN European Amateur Super Welterweight Title
Ian Young (Winner points)(NI) Vs. Uwe Menzzer (Germany)
It's not often sequels live up to their first encounter but this one was a thriller. Non stop action from start to finish with two tacticians along with guile, thrilled a packed audience.
It was Young's kicking power that gave him his first defence of his WKN Thai style European title.
Ian Young, the football star turned kickboxing pin-up, is on track for a crack at the world crown after a commanding victory at Derry city’s Brawl on the Wall event at the weekend.
The man they call ‘Mighty cheeks’ retained his WKN European super welterweight crown in front of a delighted, packed house at the Millennium Forum. And the points victory over German Uwe Menzzer has led his coach Billy Murray to signal the intent for a run at a world title.
“This was a thriller from start to finish,” said Murray. “It’s not often sequels live up to the original, but this meeting between the two even bettered the first clash – when Ian took his title. “It was a very smart, tactical fight from Ian. He had hunger and he matched that with big fight guile. He has shown he has the armoury now to challenge for a world crown. We’ll go away now and see where best to move next.”

It was a night of success for many of Young's training partners at ProKick.
