Unfortunately for Rafal in the closing seconds of the session, twisted his knee. He is normally the quiet one in the class but his banshee wailing were heard in his homeland of Portugal.
It was quite worrying, however after he was carried out and iced down, got medical attention from hospital he was sent packing as all was okay. better safe than sorry.
Level 2 sparring, which will teach aspects of low leg kickboxing as well as advanced ring craft will be open for registration on Wednesday night after the final session of the 6 week course.
The contact level will be exactly the same throughout as it was in level 1 and the emphasis is on techinque not brawn.
This class is just a sparring class NOT a fighters class and is designed for the kickboxing enthusiast who wants to step up another level and have a sparring session with the understanding that it is in a controlled environment and a class for non competitors - IMPORTANT, if anyone wishes to become a competitor please talk with your instructor.
The class starts from 6pm - 7.00 pm and takes place at Prokick HQ, Wilgar Street.
(Competitors please stick to fighter classes only`)

I’ve wanted to start kick boxing for a while now and i tried a few other gym’s but without doubt i’ve found Prokick to be excellent in welcoming beginners. From the normal classes to the sparring class. At the first lesson i attended i was a little intimatated but as i kept going i realised that we where all in the same boat. I’ve now made good friends in Prokick and look forward to going. The sparring class is where it’s at for me. Granted the first punch in the nose i got made my eye’s water but it’s all part and parcel. It’s great feeling when you avoid a punch and land a clean counter. I would advise anyone wanting to go further to give it a go. I now respect all the fighters because i’ve seen just a little of what it takes to be good at what you do. Truth, discipline and respect.

I’m really enjoying the sparring class as it teaches you how to land a punch. I think i’m world champion when i’m hitting my punch bag but of course it doesn’t hit back. I agree with mark about people going too hard in sparring as you don’t learn the technique. I’ve found myself slowing down so i can learn other people’s movements and avoidance techniques. Apart from that i’m loving it and don’t know why i didn’t do it sooner as the years are rolling on and the grey hairs are getting thicker lol.

Well folks that was session 2 of the beginners sparring class, and already we have started using kicks and counter punches to the kicks.
Awesome stuff, and of course you might get a bit of a thump on the nose (like i did last night) but hey its not a basket weaving class ya know..lol
the guys are really up for it and enjoying it so much, i have learnt that you understand the moves and avoidance moves so much quicker when you have a sparring partner who goes slow and takes that time to let each of you ensure you understand what move to make and more importantly how to aviod it and counter attack back.
there are of course one or 2 who reckon its just a get in there and punch but im sure theY will eventually understand that we are there to learn, not just punch each other, theres no art in a slug match !!
Normal class 2nite so as usual looking forward to it, and on monday night, then 3rd sparring class next week.yep its up to 3 nights a week now, i cant get enough..
Any other guys or girls from the sparring class ?
Whats your thoughts..

Originally i was quite nervous and apprehensive as although i have learnt many kickboxing techniques, actually going into sparring and getting hit and hitting back was something i had not imagined i would ever do.
However what a buzz i got, yes i was hit a few times, but you soon learn that the ducks and weaving and counter moves are taught for a reason.
NOT TO GET HIT..
So i like many of my class mates entered into a new stage of our kickboxing tonight and id say every one of them will be back for more next wednesday.
It was not a free for all, far from it, it was disciplined and we showed respect for our opponents.
The best thing i have done in a long time and so pleased and happy to be there, and yes i have gained a better judgement of my abilities and a little more pride in me.
Prokick training is super and i reckon anyone thinking of it, should do it..
oh my prokick blogs are online, if you wish to see my vids of progress since october when i started prokick:

go on, you loved it tonight, admit it
