On Saturday May 20th, at 11:00am Calvin Thomas, Dawn Roffey and
Mike Smith will be holding the Orlando Challenge Martial Arts Tournament
in Orlando, Fl.
The location
will be the Orlando Recreation Center, 649 W. Livingston Street.
Registration starts at 9:30am. Directions from I-4 FROM WEST: exit

coverage of Muay Thai, International, and Full-Contact rules kickboxing

THAI TO MEET DOWNEY IN MILWAUKEE MUAYTHAI EVENT Undefeated Pro Heavyweight
Jason Johnson also featured on authentic, May 6th Muaythai Kickboxing

Professional
Thai boxers James "Knock 'em Down" Downey of Racine (WI) and Jason
"Roadblock" Johnson of Milwaukee headline a 10 bout Muaythai extravaganza
on Saturday, May 6, 2000 at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex,
located at 6000 West Ryan Road in Franklin, Wisconsin.
The exciting
Wisconsin Muaythai League preliminaries kick off the evening at
7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Downey will meet Kongkrueng Sit-Surasak
of the Surasak Gym, Bangkok, Thailand in an authentic, no pads,
elbows legal, 5 round Muaythai bout.
Downey, the
1999 Junior Middleweight National Amateur Champion, recently trained
in Thailand for 2 1/2 months and earned his first pro victory (round
3 tko) in January of 2000 at Bangkok's historic Rajadamnern Stadium.
Johnson goes up against Wade "White Tiger" Irwin of the Sik-Tai
Muaythai Centre, Winnipeg, Canada in a rematch of their February
11, 2000 bout in Winnipeg in which Johnson earned his first professional
victory on a 5 round decision.
Representing
the U.S. in Bangkok, Johnson earned the International Federation
Muaythai Amateur World Super Heavyweight Gold Medal in December
of 1999. Downey and Johnson are managed by Milwaukeeans Duke Roufus
and Scott Joffe. A total of 10 Muaythai bouts will take place including
a women's lightweight bout plus a special appearance by Milwaukee
native and 6-Time World Kickboxing Champion, Rick "The Jet" Roufus.

Great show! Close, hard fought
bouts. 2 fights had to go an extra round to determine a winner.
Wayne Parr continued on in tournament after Daniel Dawson was too
injured to continue after their fight. Some controversy over result
of fight 6.
Many thought Parr had done enough to beat Chapman. However, Shane
Chapman from NZ fought the big guns, was too slick and conditioned
for them, and got the $10000 first prize. After a modified thai
rules bout Dale Westerman announced his retirement after losing
to Warren Elson.
