9 Fights, 7-Knock-Out's

The Battle of Bayswater!
"Best Of The Best II"

Karate / Kickboxing
Porchester Hall Queensway, Bayswater, London W2 5HS
Sunday 27th February'2000

After their recent sell-out success with "Best of the Best" at the York Hall, JKO Promotions staged a stunning sequel at the Porchester Hall on Sunday 27th February'2000, with nine explosive bouts of Kick and Thai Kick-Boxing.
Once again the venue was sold out weeks in advance, and those that couldn't get in missed knock-outs, controversy and major titles changing hands.

Kodad

Promotions demand great matches and they got them, with Paul Wheeler and Wayne McKoy providing the Thai fight of the year so far. After five incredible rounds, with Wheeler cut above the left eye and McKoy dropped twice, former World Champion Ronnie Green rated the bout one of the best he had ever seen Europe. ( Paul Wheeler 5klio lighter then Wayne McKoy. "And now the new" WKN Super-Heavyweight sensation Chris "The Sledgehammer" Ballard scored his 27th knockout in under 30 seconds of the first round, opponent Roger Toone the hapless victim.

Kodad

A real crowd puller, Ballard is rapidly earning the tag "The White Tyson." Nagin Guru Naidu and Riyadh Al Azzawi also delivered stunning stoppages on a night of pure drama. Dylan Spencer (Pat O'Keefe) lost his WKN European Title to Kodad Mohammed (Tean Cabrera over 10 hard fought, see-saw rounds, whilst Mark Shuba emphatically stopped game Daniel Flack to secure his first WKN British Title.
The fights on the undercard were also of the highest quality and provided wins for Marti Cox Jnr, Ricky Salhan and Mohammed Al Azzawi. Despite the hectic schedule the promoters helped Heathrow Kickboxing Club raise money for the Sarah Yarrow Appeal, to help this young cerebral palsey sufferer. With all the style and class of top boxing promotions, quality matchmaking, showbiz glamour and the best kickboxing personalities, JKO Promotions are setting the standards for martial entertainment and building a reputation for quality.
Look out for details of their next big show, the ultimate in full contact entertainment.

Irish Team Thai-ed to Victory! Click here to see the pics

A five-man Northern Irish Kick-Boxing team enjoyed a hugely successful - if brief - far eastern tour last week in preparation for their date with destiny in the Waterfront Hall on March 25.

The local boxers, Gary Hamilton and Alan Kilpatrick from Belfast, Denver Stewart from Ballynahinch and corner-man Billy Barron and lead by team captain and head coach Billy Murray, travelled to Thailand, Bali, Australia and onto warm-up bouts in New Zealand to both train and rest ahead of the big night.

Murray explained the reason behind the trip:
"For the fighters, the March show is going to be the biggest night of their lives. I wanted to get them completely focused, but also a little more relaxed. So we travelled initially to Thailand, the home of the sport to sample some light training and sparring in a couple of gyms over there. It helped immensely.
"They were able to see first hand the dedication and level of skill that the Thai's apply to the sport. They also savoured the delights of authentic Muay Thai bouts, visiting several of the stadia that dot Bangkok, to watch the events live.

Murray himself met with Mr Songchai, the main Thai kickboxing promoter and manager of Murray's March 25 opponent, Chartsingh. During the meeting, many aspects of co-promotions between the ProKick franchise and Mr Songchai's own organisation were discussed as was Mr Songchai's growing and incredibly welcome involvement with the WKN. Though Mr Songchai's hospitality was second to none, the team had to move on... to a two day break in Bali. The incredible, if brief, Far Eastern and Antipodean tour was completed with a flying visit to Brisbane, before the team were brought down to earth with a bang in Auckland.

"It might seem to have been an awful long way to go for a little preparation but I wanted to get their mind-set right."
The warm-ups in New Zealand also went well.
"We just needed to get the lads some ring practice with some of the best in the world.
At the Waterfront Hall they will all be competing at the highest level, you can spar until the cows come home, but nothing beats stepping into the ring and pushing yourself.
"All the lads showed the necessary hunger and ability. We had no major injuries and no major upsets. That to me is a more than successful warm-up. I think they're looking in great shape for March."

Of his own chances for his one-off comeback fight against old adversary Chartsingh of Thailand, Billy was giving little away.
"I'm in good shape, as good as I've been for years. I'm close to the weight and I'm really, really looking forward to it. I've waited several years to climb back into the ring, waited until the time and the opponent and the cause was right.

All proceeds from the Belfast event will go towards the Royal Victory Hospital for sick children and ward 39.
